Jim Lively is a practicing attorney and a contemporary figurative artist. His work includes abstract and figurative painting as well as multi-media installation pieces. Jim’s work is influenced by both the beautiful and unattractive components of contemporary urban culture. Frequently, one work will reflect both of these components. Recent works tend to focus upon the edgy juxtapositions of figurative images. Often one or more figurative images are disproportionately large in comparison to the other figurative images that share the same canvas but nonetheless are still critically interrelated. The large figures are human faces expressing a panoply of emotions. The smaller figures are typically simpler and more abstract so that the viewer is cognizant of their presence in relation to the larger images but not distracted from the “story” being told through the expressions of the larger images. Jim’s formal education includes a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Texas at Austin and a Juris Doctor from Southern Methodist University. He currently resides in Dallas, Texas in a mid-century ranch style home affectionately known as the “Atomic Ranch”. |
