Gisela Pferdekaemper was born in northern Germany, and her early paintings bear her maiden name, Vollmar. She started her training as a draftsperson after graduation from high school, but soon moved on to painting posters decorating a major German department store. She then worked as a lithographer, and finished an education in the graphic arts. A painting scholarship was offered to Gisela, which afforded her the opportunity to study free-style painting at Braunschweig University, situated in the heart of the former Kingdom of Hanover, now the state of lower Saxony. There, Gisela had the privilege of working under renowned art professors Kreibel, Chimiotti and Doerfler. She developed her own style and began selling her work to private collectors. After finishing her University studies, she followed her husband, real estate developer and entrepreneur, Dr. Howald Pferdekaemper, to south Florida. Accompanying Gisela and her husband were thirty-two Hanover horses, which was the basis for establishing a Hanover horse farm, the first in Palm Beach County, Florida. The husband and wife founded the Palm Beach Dressage Derby, which, for the last twenty-five years, has been one of the most presitigious Dressage competitions in the United States. Gisela has become an internationally-acknowledged breeder of Hanover horses. Since living in south Florida, Gisela’s paintings have grown to feature brighter colors. Wildlife, landscapes, sunsets, and, of course, horses, realistic and surrealistic, were added as a new dimension to her range of expression. Gisela’s work has been exhibited and successfully sold locally, and has more than 200 customers worldwide. |
